Topped Off

A major step in the construction of the new Chief Post Office was reached when the building shell was topped off on Friday, September 14. The ceremony took place on a clear and breezy day and was performed by Mr M. G. Wilson, Chief Postmaster for Gisborne.

Pictured during the topping off, which took place on top of the highest point of the building (the service block on the sixth floor) are, from left, Messrs Peter Whitley, Des Ross (site manager), M. G. Wilson, M. S. Odell (Post Office district engineer), Peter Fisher (Ministry of Works resident engineer) and Ken Welch. The top of the new building offers some spectacular views of Gisborne from the city centre.
