Which Girl? What Girl?

To paraphrase an old song, we don't know what to say. All the finalists in the Victory Hostess Contest for the Commonwealth Games are delightful, and all the suspense will be dispensed when the winner is announced at the Victory Hostess Ball this coming Friday night, August 17. A representative from each city is being chosen to go to the Commonwealth Games next year. These girls will act as hostesses at the games, a duty which will include carrying the medals to be presented to the winners of the events. The seventeen Gisborne finalists were presented to the public at a wine and chicken evening and fashion parade held at the DB Gisborne Hotel on July 25. Attendance at a rugby game, a visit to Cook Hospital, and a luncheon were other functions at which the contestants were judged, with the winner being announced, as stated, this coming Friday night.
