Under one Roof

As from last month (when the amalgamation of all social services took place) the Social Welfare Department is now boused under one roof, that of the Govt Life Insurance Building, with the entrance in Grey Street. On the ground floor is the directory and reception area, on the first floor the social work division offices, and on the second floor the bene fits and pension inquiry offices.

Present at a small function to mark the opening of the new department were, from left, Mr A. T. Healey, (Assistant Director-General of Social Welfare), Mr J. E. Hancock (Director, Social Welfare department in Gisborne), Mrs Hancock, Gisborne M. P. Trevor Davey and Mrs Davey, Mrs King, the Minister of Social Welfare, Mr King, and the Mayor and Mayoress, Mr and Mrs Harry Barker.
