Gisborne Wins

The Gisborne harrier team took the Thomas Shield in the annual contest against Whakatane and Opotiki, at Hexton. Unseasonally firm tracks kept the mudlarks back, but this did not detract from the individual winning performances.

First home in the A grade colts' event over 6000 metres was G. Wakelin of Opotiki, who streaked away to a commanding lead and was never headed.

Gary Sissons takes a fence cleanly, but was too far behind to peg back the placegetters.

Allan Parkinson, second in the senior 12,000 metre event, looks back at Alan Saunders, who eventually came sixth.
