Golden Jubilee Match

The 50th representative rugby match between Poverty Bay and East Coast took place, almost to the day of the first, at Rugby Park on June 4. Poverty Bay scored all its tries in the first 26 minutes of the game, with Coast converting its one try just on half-time. In the second half, East Coast drew on extra reserves of power and held the local team to the final score of 27-6.

Winger Alan Peterson scored Poverty Bay's third try in runaway style.

This jubilee game was also East Coast player Arthur Cross's 50th first class game.

This is the first Poverty Bay team (defying rain and mud by horse and coach) that travelled to Tokomaru Bay to win the first P.B.E.C. game in 1923. From left, in front: P. Smith and E. Torrie.
