Trowell is this Year's Sportsman

The Crippled Children Society Sportsman Of The Year award was won by walking champion Jim Trowell, and was presented to him at the successful Sportsmen's Dinner held in the Midway pavilion, Jim Trowell, nominated by the Gisborne Amateur Athletic Club, is the winner of the national 50,000 metres road walk, holds 17 Hawke's Bay-Poverty Bay Centre titles, all H.B.P.B. records for walks from 1 mile to 50,000 metres, and is on the possible list for the 1974 Commonwealth Games. He thoroughly deserved the award as it takes grit and determination to overcome the loneliness of the hours and days of training, let alone getting to the very top in this sport.
