No Hole-in-One —But a Great Day

There were no holes-in-one to mark the occasion, but the opening of the new Tahunga Golf Club and course was no less memorable for that. Situated on Tahunga Station, some forty miles from Gisborne, at the back of Rere, the six-hole course will enable the 40 local golfing enthusiasts to play much nearer home and not have to make the long trip there and back into town to take part in their favourite sport. About 100 visitors attended the opening, which included a picnic lunch and a barbeque tea after the opening round. Much hard work has gone into the making of the course which, incidentally, looked to be on the only piece of flat ground for miles around. Even then, it is on a sort of circular plateau surrounded by the river, so woe betide any hooks or slices.

Who knows, if you get in a good hard slice you may even stun a trout, or something? And, for a fishing golfer, what could be better!
