Pictures from the Past

This month we also have two pictures from Mr Norman Bartlett, of 22 Owen Road.

From Mr Wallie Ingram, now living in Auckland, comes this picture of Gisborne taken in the 1860s, about Te Kooti's time, in fact. Note the palisaded building towards the centre of the photograph, and also the complete absence of trees on Kaiti Hill.

At driftwood by the mile covers the beaches of Poverty Bay during a flood of the 1930s. Due to absence of floods and back country clearance of bush, we are not likely to see a sight such as this again.

This picture of the original Gisborne Hospital, in Aberdeen Road, was taken about 1914. Note the ornate facings, typical of buildings erected in those days.
