Zoonk!

Jamboree Bound

×

The recent soaring temperatures went pretty high, we all know, but how high they really were was brought home to members of the Brook household, in Emily Street, when they discovered these candles on the sideboard almost expiring with the heat. If the candles were a bit bent, weren't we all! Thank goodness it does rain now and again and the temperatures do come down to a reasonable level.

The heat also caused odd things to happen in the Brook garden, like these two apples growing together. Just like a loaf of French bread, oui?

These members of the Waiteata Scouts have been sponsored to raise money towards their expenses for the Jamboree to be held at the end of the year, in Samoa. They have been cleaning up gardens, mowing lawns and doing general chores to achieve their aim. Pictured in the Cresswell garden, in Matthews Road, are, from left, Walter Escott, Grant Williams, Keith Thompson, Martin Lindsay and Keith Fairbank.
