Trefoil 21st

Honour Badges Presented

Twenty-three members of the Gisborne Trefoil Guild gathered at Ulverstone to celebrate the club's 21st birthday, on November 27. A delicious luncheon was enjoyed, after which members entertained 25 people from the Disabled Citizens' Group. Cutting the cake is Mrs F. Balfour, who is pictured with the other 22 members of the party. Trefoil is the club for ex-Girl Guides.

At a gathering of the Gisborne branch of W.D.F.F., four of the branch's members were awarded Branch Honour Badges. These are fiven for long and meritorious service to the branch. From left, Mrs R. Cott, a foundation member who presented the badges, and Mesdames G. S. Bridge (15 years a member), J. B. Greig (first year member and secretary for 15½ years) and M. A. Holdsworth (a member since 1936).

Once again, the Gisborne Boxing Association treated members to a feast of food and soft drinks at the presentation of trophies, held at the end of last year in the Railways Gym. After enjoying the repast, the boys were presented with their trophies by Dr Bruce Morrison, Medical Officer to the association. From left, Gary Le Bas (most scientific boxer), Dr Morrison, Dean Pere (most outstanding junior), Spencer Holmes (gamest loser), Richmond Waru, front, (best novice), Francis Hongara (best all round boxer), Leo Harrison (most improved novice), Mr Mai Watt (trainer of most winners, gymnasium with most winners), and Mr Colin Whelan (Association president).

Mrs Fay Flavell, treasurer to the Waimata District Girl Guides for the past seven years, was presented with a Thanks Badge, recently. Mrs Jean Adams (right), District Commissioner, presented the badge, which is for extra services unselfishly rendered.

An extremely pleasant trip was undertaken, by these members of the Gisborne Pony Club, to Australia towards the end of last year. From left, Jenny Taylor, Leigh Geary, Wendy Sherriff, Jo-Ann Bagley, Christine Hyland, Peter Andrew and Philip Hobbs. Absent: Robert Bruce, Jeanette Davies and Bruce Graham. They went as a team to a 2-day Jamboree in Sydney, then spent the rest of the two weeks as guests of their billitees.
