The Helping Hand

The helping hand of every fit and able-bodied New Zealander should be held out to aid the Crippled Children Society. Through no fault of their own, young people, with all types of afflictions, are doomed to have a hard time of life unless helped by the Crippled Children Society. Many of the ailments require time, as well as money, to treat but, with perseverance and training, these people are able to lead full and rewarding lives, thanks to the society. A 30-minute film in colour and 35mm was screened at a 5.30 p.m. showing at the Odeon Theatre, on November 16. A professionally-made film, the movie showed very concisely just how the society works and why funds are really needed

Pictured after the screening, when patrons had the opportunity to take refreshment and discuss the film were, from left, Mrs Jan Comp (secretary), Mrs S. S. Hardman (committee), Mr John Hawksworth (president, Gisborne Branch, Crippled Children Society), his daughter Sharon and Mrs Olive Hale (field officer).

Members of the Gisborne Sheepfarmers' Senior marching team acted as programme girls and also held the donation blankets after the free film showing. A very worthwhile amount was collected to help with society funds, but more is certainly needed, of course. From left, Ngaire Wallen, Julie McKenzie, Robyn Smith and Tina Clark.

Four other members of the team were Lynnette Wallen, Denise Wallen, Janice Williams and Ayling Louie.
