Striking Vikings

A horde of rowers paddled a horde of rafts down the Waimata and Turanganui Rivers in the splendiferous Youth For Christ Raft Race. The very successful water adventure looks like becoming an annual event.

Paddling in steady fashion, Terry Lougher and crew were clear winners of the race.

After the race, while Youth For Christ members were gathered in force, a presentation of $25 was made to Mr A. W. Hall (left) chairman of the Health Camp, for camp funds, by Y.F.C. director Murray Lennox. The $25 was 10% of the sponsorship money raised for travelling expenses for the Youth For Christ Teen Team representative, Rawinia Poi, and this was pledged to the Health Camp as part of the sponsorship deal.

"We made it!"

A capsize before starting didn't prevent the winners from winning.

Four tyre tubes and one long plastic bag looked good in theory, but not so good in practice. However, it is Ngaire Lougher, Patricia Shotter, Kathleen Parkin and Derek Muir getting ready for take-off!

Prepared for the sun, just in case it did come out!
