Catching Plenty

A Tisket, A Tasket

Winner of the nation-wide Ford tractor sales competition, "Kangaroo" Kapers," was Gisborne Motors' salesman Peter Christensen. The prize was a holiday for two in Australia. Gisborne Motors' manager Warwick Bain settles Peter and Rose Christensen into their "taxi" for the ride out to the airport. The driver is Tom Gray.

Plenty of wild pork up Ruatoria way. From Ross Bishop or Ruatoria comes this picture of a successful hunt. Four very large and five medium sized pigs were shot there recently — which is plenty of pig when you have to use a pack horse to transport them home.

But not real baskets. Bob Nalder (left), 45 Atkinson Street, and Brent and Mark Johns, 240 Stout Street, found these unusual basket fungi growing out in the Matokitoki Valley, on one of their recent expeditions. The proper name for the fungus is Clathrus Cibarius and is usually found growing in the south of the South Island.
