Easy Feeding

One of the first automatic chicken feeding machines in the Gisborne district has been installed in the chicken house of Mr Lionel Hyde at Waipaoa.

The machine, a Big Dutchman, can feed up to 10,000 birds, but at the moment is feeding 3200.

The feed is unloaded onto the conveyor, which is built to travel right around the chicken house. Its height is also adjustable so that the conveyor can be raised as the chickens grow. The machine is filled once per day at present, and is programmed to operate and feed the five-week-old birds ten minutes every hour. As the chickens grow, so the feeding programme is increased.
