This unique, carved chair, in the shape of a bear, belongs to Mrs H. O. Drake, Te Kaha. It was purchased at an auction sale in Opotiki about 30 years ago but beyond that its history is not known. (Maybe there really was a Miss Goldilocks after all!)

A very rare double strike was made by Messrs Jim Wood (left) and Paddy Wanklyn when they were fishing by boat in the Lottin Point area. They hooked a hammerhead and a mako shark, then proceeded to play and land them both simultaneously, also a rare achievement. Of particular note is the fact that both varieties of shark are not known to inhabit the same areas at any one time.

No mail coach, no mail, no nothing at the Toa Toa Post Office, where only the wind and animals keep company with the tiny old building. Toa Toa is 25 miles north of Motuhora, on the old road to Opotiki.

This double sized watermelon was found in the Brown family's watermelon patch at Patutahi. By the time we had gotten out to Patutahi half of it was eaten, and here young Glenn is intent on getting started on the second half. About to help him are Ross, Sharron and Craig. The whole melon weighed 541bs, with a girth of 2 feet 10½ inches and a length of 2 feet 6 inches. A normal sized melon is also pictured. And, for your information, young Glenn's weight is 241b 14ozs.
