The 30-Mile Row

Gratifying Effort

A grand effort by the Waikanae Surf Life-Saving crew in the Club's surf boat, the J. Wattie, enhanced their prospects for the Cook Strait Surf Boat Race which was to have been held on January 22, just after we went to press. The crew rowed the boat from Mahanga Beach, at Mahia, to Waikanae Beach in just under six hours. The row was sponsored and the club will benefit to the extent of some $500. This will be used to purchase some much needed life-saving equipment.
