Enthusiastic Entrants

Very enthusiastic teams took part in the Contributing Schools' Athletic Sports which were held in the Childers Road Reserve on Saturday, November 13. All the city schools were represented and the sports took place before a large crowd.

The sports were opened with a combined schools' march past and this was led by the Awapuni School team.

The prestige event, the 11-years-and-over boys' 400 metres was won, under pressure, by Wayne Chiles.

Mark Furlan of Te Wharau took the open boys' 800 metres.

The boys' long jump was won by Paul van Dorp, also of Te Wharau, who sailed over a distance of 14 feet 2 inches. Other winners are pictured on the next page.
