The Gisborne Photo News

2

At Home And Abroad

Here at "Photo News" we often wonder just how many of the copies we print each month stay in Gisborne and how many are sent away to friends and relatives in other parts. According to the mailroom at the Gisborne Post Office, copies of "Photo News" come through in large numbers after each publication, addressed to all parts of the world. Here is the kind of letter we get back occasionally from a faraway reader: "Allow me the privilege of congratulating you on your splendid Christmas number, 'Beautiful Gisborne'. As an old Gisbornite, I am of course very interested in that lovely city. This copy was sent to me by my niece, thinking I would appreciate it. I certainly do. I can honestly say we have nothing at all as good here and that is saying a lot". The letter is signed by C. L. Williams, who was formerly with Petties Ltd., and now runs a business in Pitt Street, Sydney.

We like to think that "Photo News" is helping to publicise Gisborne, and we do know that some of the copies we print work overtime at this job. We had a lady tell us a while back that her copy is sent to Auckland, where it does a round of four readers, then to Wellington for circulation among friends there, after which it comes back to Gisborne for posting to an overseas address.

And then, of course, there's our Texas cattle-buyer subscriber, who has gotten so interested in Gisborne from reading "Photo News" that a lot of the girls we've printed pictures of had Christmas greetings recently from the lone star state. Now, we're not responsible for that!
