Colman Bolgar

He Knows His Horses

The finer points of horsemanship have been sharpened considerably by the periodic visits to Poverty Bay of Mr Colman Bolgar, the Hungarian trainer, whose tours are arranged by the International Horse Society. Mr Bolgar was here last month to conduct a week's school at the show-grounds, and at the conclusion of the course the public was invited to witness a demonstration by his pupils.

The audience found plenty to interest them, but was often at a loss to know which was more entertaining - Mr Bolgar or the horses. A forceful personality, he has not only a commanding voice, but speaks eloquently with his face, arms, and indeed his whole body. He is seen on these pages in typical poses. At right he is telling listeners that jumping is like "dancing with ze horse".
