Pictures from the Past
Into Tunisia
Into the Backblocks
From Mr Y. Hutchinson we have this pic of some of the first troops of the Eighth Army to enter Tunisia. In it are three Gisborne men. At left, in the back row, is Mr Hutchinson. In front, in the "lemon squeezer," is Peter Mitford and to the left of him, in the balaclava, is Derek Parker. The pic was taken on T.I. patrol on the border, on January 12, 1943.
From Mrs E. J. Knox, 23 Walsh Street, comes this picture, taken before World War II, outside the Tokomaru Bay Post Office. It shows Mr Ted Hollever with his supply "wagon". Mr Hollever used to deliver stores and provisions out to Huiarua Station. He would leave on the Tuesday morning and get back to Tokomaru Bay on the Friday afternoon.
