Piled High

×

Twenty thousand bags of seed maize, weighing between four and five tons, are piled high here. The seed, Northrup King, was grown under contract in the Gisborne district for Gisborne Mills Ltd. Northrup King, a variety of maize which is well suited to New Zealand conditions, has won prizes in maize competitions in Gisborne, Waikato and Manawatu, and also top awards in the U.S.A., where it was hybridized. There is enough seed here to plant 40,000 acres throughout New Zealand. Shown at the centre of the picture is Gisborne Mills' field representative Bob Jenkinson.
