Top Gun Dog

Speading the Seed

Food, Glorious Food

This shot of one of the tables of glorious food was taken at the Sandown Motor Park Hotel prior to the buffet dinner held by the Poverty Bay Rugby Union for the visiting Lions team reception. Swan-shaped fruit containers and beautifully decorated succulent hams were features of the dining room centre piece. Hope you're not on a diet! If so, look some place else. Pictured with the head chef, Oliver Pasquale, are P.B.R.U. officials Jess Baddeley (left) and Paul Sceats.

With the ever increasing amount of maize production in the district, getting the seed into the ground is almost something of a problem. A.B.C. Motors has just imported this very large sophisticated maize planter from the U.S.A. for the E. G. White Contracting Co. This is the largest bean and corn planter in New Zealand and is 21' 6" wide and can plant eight 30" rows at a time. Each hopper holds one bushel of seed, and one ton of fertiliser is carried thus giving twenty acres of planting between refills. Insecticide and weedicide can be applied at the time of planting. The machine is equipped with double disc seed and fertiliser openers, disc type covers, rubber press wheels, and disc type markers.
