Five Thousand Pounds

First Season - an Eagle !

×

Two girls from Tahiti are attending the Gisborne Girls' High School for eight weeks. They are part of the contingent which has come from that paradisiac island to learn to speak English. Over there they speak French (as if you didn't know). At the school they were each assigned a classmate who speaks French reasonably well. They are all in 4A and from left are Chantal Bonnim, Julie Fergusson, Maeve Berdicheuski, Debra Hill, and class captain Dawn Boyce. If you can't work out who's who, then you'd better take up French!

Five thousand pounds of lemons were donated to this year's combined N.A.C., Radio 2ZG, and Public Relations appeal for "Lemon Aid." The fruit was flown south to Invercargill where it was distributed to homes, old age pensioners and other needy people. From left, with some of the lemons in cartons donated by Watties, are Mr Stuart Stubbs (acting manager of 2ZG), the Mayor, Mr Harry Barker, and N.A.C. manager, Mr Colin Bell.

Mr Bill Green, a first season golfer at Gisborne Park, scored an eagle recently. He hit a beautiful drive off the 15th tee (a par 4) and had the great satisfaction of seeing his pitch land nicely and roll right into the hole. Bill is on a 24 handicap so he is making pretty good progress for a newcomer.
