Looking Alive

An interest in animals and birds has led Mr Vic Davy, Awapuni Road, to an absorbing pastime, that of taxidermy. Many fine specimens have been treated by him and many examples of his work can be seen in the Davy hairdressing shop in Gladstone Road.

This 12 pound trout was actually frozen for 12 years before being processed.

Mr Davy lays out the skin of a very young deer preparatory to mounting it to lifesize proportions.

As most animals or birds cannot be processed immediately, Mr Davy has a deep freeze unit especially used for the storage of animals for processing.

An oppossum and two birds are three of the many exhibits on display in the shop.

This albatross with a nine foot wing span hangs from the ceiling.
