The Oddest Tug-of-War

Real Big Tusks

The oddest tug-of-war ever recorded on film must surely be in this picture which comes from Mrs S. Patterson of Makaraka. It was taken some years ago now at Papaaroha, eight miles from Coromandel. These two dogs really set to, but look at the dog on the right giving the other one "a hand" by pulling his tail to help! Holding the sack is Charlie McCall, looking on are Richard Patterson and Ivan McCall and at the garden gate is Mrs Patterson.

One of the strangest liaisons between dog and cat must be between this pedigree Collie (Tammy) and this pedigree Siamese cat (Chai) which live at the Wilson household, 70A Endcliffe Road. What makes the friendliness even more remarkable is the fact that Siamese cats, being very temperamental, are inclined to have difficulty in getting along with anyone, let alone dogs. However, these two are companionable to the nth degree. Tammy belongs to Mrs Maree Wilson, while daughter Michelle (Inset) is the proud owner of Chai.

And if you'd like a close-up of a decent set of tusks, take a gander at this pig head from a boar shot by Mick Robinson of Mill Road. The tusks are in the 21-22 size class and those are big tusks in any boar's language!
