Hume Company Opens New Plant
The new industrial sub-division at Awapuni continues to develop steadily and the latest company to open new premises there was Hume Industries Ltd.
Their concrete pipe plant was demonstrated to a gathering of associated tradesmen to celebrate the factory opening.
Concrete is thrown into revolving moulds, which contain the reinforcing, until the required thickness is reached.
After all the interior has been smoothed off the ends of the pipes are finished by hand.
The pipes are then placed in a temperature controlled room and after curing has been effected are released from the moulds.
Present at the opening were, from left, Messrs Bill Hurstone (Auckland branch manager), Ross Harmon (Gisborne branch-manager) and Fred Wood (N. Z. manager).
