Pictures From The Past

Last year's Olympic Pool queen carnival brought to light this old picture from Mr T. R. Innes who lives at the Cook Hospital Memorial Home. It was taken at the coronation of the queen of the carnival in 1915. Held in Gisborne, the carnival raised $44,120.15 for patriotic funds, with the winning Tolaga Bay candidate the then Norma Loisel, raising nearly $18,000 of this amount. There are plenty of familiar and well known names in this picture. As far as we can ascertain they are, from left, back row: Queenie Parker, Mary Taylor, Grayson, k. Fromm, Norma Loisel, — Kennedy, R. Coulton, V. MacDonald. Third row: Page boys Jack Zachariah, Theo Innes (who supplied the picture), Colin Hacche. Second row: Charlie Parker jnr, Ralph De Costa, Mrs H. Bright, Bill Sherratt, Edna Jellinek, Norman Loisel, Hilda Gumming, Rees Allan. Front row: Basil Adair, Lorraine Bain, Alec Ross and Jack Bain.
