The Procession

Highlight of the fine programme staged to celebrate Gisborne's accession to city status was the varied and interesting procession of decorated floats which entertained thousands of people lining Gladstone Road on January 3.

Streams of traffic converged on Gisborne for an hour prior to the starting time of the procession, and long before the first float made its appearance round the Post Office corner, the street was lined with a dense crowd all straining to get a good view. The weather was perfect.

After traversing Gladstone Road, the procession made its way to the Childers Road Reserve, where a gymkhana was staged.
