Around the Port

Progress is the keyword around Gisborne's port and some notable alterations are surely taking place on the waterfront.

×

Spoil from the freezing works excavation has been used to extend the Gisborne Harbour Board's reclamation scheme on the Kaiti foreshore. About one and a half acres of reclaimed land have been formed in front of the present log marshalling area.

Two large steel silos are being built for Meadowbank's lucerne meal pellets. Each silo will hold 1000 tons of pellets, and 10,000 tons of pellets are expected to be exported each year to Japan. The second silo can be seen, half way up, in the picture.

New Zealand Cement Holding's packing plant is almost complete (next to the silo) and their storage and office building is well under construction. The Harbour Board's new store, with offices in the second storey, is now being built (on the left). This will give cohesion to the whole harbour board complex.
