Poverty Bay's Miss Jet Girl, 1970, was Louise Samuel, daughter of Mr and Mrs T. Samuel, 51 Atkinson Street. Louise was the Gisborne area selection and went forward to Auckland for the national final. Unfortunately she became ill in Auckland and could not take part in the final. The Gisborne selection took place at Adairs and was organised for New Zealand by the Roberts Manufacturing Co. Ltd.

"Well known as county engineer for many years at Tolaga Bay, Mr Charles ("Tas") Percy recently celebrated his 89th birthday. Mr Percy has been retired for some years now and lives quietly at his home at 22a Russell Street.

Another "coast" identity is Mrs Tini Pokai of Waipiro Bay. She has lived up there for the 50 years since 1920.

Creating something of a record at the recent spring flower show was Louise Orchiston who, out of ten entries in the citrus sections at the show gained nine first placings. With some of the prize-winning fruit and cards are, from left, Reo Hall, Louise, and Jillian Lysnar.
