World Record

Mrs Rita Campbell, 3 Waiteata Street, broke the world endurance record for non-stop knitting. The event took place at Adairs where Mrs Campbell started her marathon at 4 a.m. on September 1. She knitted for 55 hours and six minutes, eclipsing the previous record of 54 hours. Funds raised from sponsorships and donations came to more than $530 from Mrs Campbell's effort. This goes to the Swimming Queen in the Olympic Pool Queen Carnival. Mrs Campbell, a committee member of the Olympic Swimming Club, has always been keenly interested in swimming as well as her hobby of knitting.
