Charity in Truth

Maori lady members of St. John's parish, Mangapapa, have spent many long, though enjoyable, hours working on some beautiful tukutuku panels to line the sanctuary of the church. The work has been under the direction of Mrs Maheno Honotapu who designed and draughted the patterns for the panels as well as leading the other members in the art of making the panels. Mrs Honotapu was assisted by Lady Kira Ngata in this work, Mrs Honotapu was honoured for her work at a morning tea at the church hall recently, before she left the city to live in Kaikohe, where her husband has been transferred. Eight patterns on sixteen panels were made for the sanctuary. Absent from these pictures is Mrs Hiria Wanoa, who was unable to attend.
