Under Way

The Olympic Swimming Pool Queen Carnival got underway officially on Friday, August 28, when the candidates were introduced to the public by Mayor Harry Barker at a short ceremony at the Peel Street lights. Later a "bubbling" function was held to celebrate the opening of the carnival and this event was sold out days in advance, which should augur well for the success of the carnival.

Jaycee Queen Evelyn Tombleson and attendants Keitha MacDougall, Fiona MacDougall and Elizabeth Hardy.

The Lions Queen is Mary van Helden. Her attendants are, from left, Mary Grainger, Judy Bird and Maria Moy.

Those responsible for the successful function were Don and Jo Walker and Stuart Stubbs.
