This year's tourist promotion award, made annually by the local branch of the N.Z. National Travel Association, was given to Mr Michael Brittenden for his work in promoting the district as a holiday resort. The presentation took place at Lincoln House, after which a most interesting film on the U.S.A. was shown after dinner. From left: Mr Neil Summers-by (chairman of the local branch), Mr Geoff Crone (deputy chairman), Mr and Mrs Brittenden, and Mrs Mary Woosey (secretary). Making the presentation is Mr John Hutchison, public affairs officer for the American Embassy.

Edward Thomas Skuse, son of Mr and Mrs G. Skuse, 3 Dalrymple Road, was admitted as a barrister and solicitor recently. Edward is now in Australia working with a law firm, Patterson and Dowding in Perth.

Giovanna Hall, whose parents were formerly of Gisborne, is pictured here with a tame python (snake) at Singapore. The picture was taken on her way to the Continent where she was going on a working holiday. At the moment Giovanna is staying with her grandparents in Italy. She is the sister of Kay Hall who is working in the Bank of New Zealand at Tokomaru Bay.

Kerry Shaw, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs I. G. Shaw, Seymour Road, gained her Bachelor of Science degree from Auckland University. Kerry, who is now working for the Broken Hill Proprietary Co., Melbourne, flew back from Australia for the capping.
