A multitude of duties

Many and varied are the duties of the Public Health nurse as she goes cheerfully about the city and its environs attending to the wants, cares and necessities of people in need of her ministrations.

These nurses, working from the Health Department, whose offices are in the Government Life building in Gladstone Road, are dedicated types and our pictures show just how varied their tasks can be.

Attention to mother and new baby starts antenatally, continues with visits to the maternity home, and is followed up after the return home.

Tuberculosis control is still exercised throughout the country and vaccination in secondary schools is readily available.

Tubercuiin testing is carried out with young children in all schools. The test Miss Bull is giving these Kaiti school children will show any reaction within a week. If any reaction does occur further tests and treatment are then available.
