The Racing Driver

Rod Coppins, Gisborne's contender for the title of New Zealand's top saloon car driver, made no bones about deserving that title at the finish of the South Island Mercury 1000 series. As well as winning four and gaining two seconds in the seven races, Rod capped a very successful season by winning the final. This capable and popular driver has had wins on all the circuits, from Pukekohe to Invercargill. Rod's successes also include his first equal placing with Red Dawson in the North Island Gold Star series. In the Gold Star he did not start competing until the fourth race, a fact which makes his share win in that series all the more meritorious. Rod drives a 5500cc Team Cambridge Chevrolet Camaro.
