Here And There

Play will be even better next year on the Riverside Bowling Club's green. The greens have been grooved and cotchula planted. This flat growing weed-grass provides the ideal covering and surface for bowl playing.

A presentation of a Naval Board pennant was made to the Takitimu Scout group by Lt. A. F. Blount, Auckland. The awarding of the pennant entitles the group to certain naval privileges, such as visits to naval ships at Gisborne, etc. The Takitimu group was one of the 12 top teams in the competition at the last jamboree held in Christchurch, and on this basis the pennant was awarded. Six Takitimu Venturers are pictured with the pennant and Lt. Blount. From left: Lt. Blount, Bill Harding, Peter Ballantyne, David Wallace, Alan Henderson, Chris Zame and Roger Ballantyne (Unit Leader).

On the same night as the pennant presentation Brian Wilcox graduated from Scout to Venturer. From left: Group leader Bruce Ballantyne, Scoutmaster David Sloan, Brian Wilcox and Venturer Adviser Bill Harding.
