A one day display of replicas of the British crown jewels was held in Adairs recently. Valued at $25,000 the display drew large crowds. With Adairs manager, Mr Ernie De Suza is Mayor Harry Barker who declared the display open.

Tracey, Kerry, Jason and Brent Mcintosh, the family of Ross and Beryl McIntosh, 3 Riperata Street, are now the proud owners of these Japanese dolls, automatic toy tank and camouflage hat. They were sent to them, all the way from Singapore, by their uncle, L. Cpl. Tom Moores, who is serving over there.

Sales of flowers on Poppy Day were extra good this year and at 10 a.m. Mrs Lucy Farmer (left) and Mrs Millie Dalrymple had both sold their quotas – on the cold side of the street too!

The apple packing contest, run by the Department of Agriculture and the Apple and Pear Marketing Board at the board's building at Makaraka, saw Neville Brodie emerge as winner of the novice, men's open and mixed open sections. Mrs Raewyn Williamson (left inset) won the women's open and was second in the mixed open. Mrs Kita Gerrard (right inset) was first in the learners' section.
