King Alfred's Hangi

Once upon a time there was this king called Alfred who commanded his subjects to cook and eat a hangi, and celebrate, and spend up large, for the benefit of his palace on an ancient site in Kaitiland. And ever after, once every year, the rite is remembered and celebrated as the Waikirikiri Gala.
