Diane Burch of Douglas Street, Wainui, adds more than considerably to the beautiful colour picture on this month's cover. Mrs Burch, who is deaf, has won quite a few beauty contests. The latest was the Miss Deaf New Zealand which was held at the National Deaf People's Sports Convention recently where the field was open to both married and single girls. The picture was taken at Stinton's Claremont Nurseries in Wainui Road. where thousands of ranunculus were in full bloom. This nursery is one of only four in the world where these flowers are grown from seed. A couple of days after this picture was taken all the flowers were mown off. This lets the bulbs mature properly before they are lifted later for sale.
