These players participated in the Invitation Croquet Tournament held in Gisborne at the end of October. The tournament was open to scratch and two-and-a-half handicap players and was a middle event. This was the first time a middle event was played in Gisborne, although the junior event was held here in 1966. The finalists are, from left: Mrs Marnee Ward (Hamilton), Mrs Betty Boyes (South Taranaki), Mr Lea Ford (Auckland) who won the tournament, Mr Fred Peters (Dunedin), and Mrs Phyllis Clark (president of Barry memorial Croquet Club).

Prominent swimming personality Beth Mead was presented the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association's Service Award by H.B.P.B. Centre president Collin Hacche recently. The award is given for long and outstanding service to the sport. Mrs Mead has been coaching for 23 years and has been associated with swimming since she first took part in the sport 30 years ago, at the age of 10.
