Act of Worship

The week-long celebrations ended on Sunday, October 12, with a Community Act of Worship held at the Childers Road Reserve. The order of service included a re-enactment of the coming of Christianity to the East Coast.

In the re-enactment the Rev. W. Williams (played by the Rev. W. J. W. Rosevear) accepts the traditional Maori challenge from Hiki Halmona, Mohi Matete and Brian Puhipuhi.

The first three missionaries were played by the Rev. Rosevear, Norman McLean and Derek Bird.

Church leaders taking part in the service were, from left, Rev. R. E. Bullen (chairman East Coast Council of Churches) and New Zealand church leaders Rt. Rev. Dr. M. A. Bennett, Brigadier D. Goffin, Most Rev. Dr. N. A. Lesser, Most Rev. R. Delargy, Rt. Rev. Dr. I. W. Fraser, and Rev.W. R. Francis.
