During Cook Week the Rt. Rev. Dr. M. A. Bennett, Bishop of Aotearoa, addressed the assemblies of both the Boys' and the Girls' High Schools. Here he is seen with the principal of the Boys' High School, Mr G. M. Simpson.

Two former residents of Gisborne, Mrs Eileen Russell and Mrs Dorothy Payter (now both of Auckland), were visitors to Gisborne for the Cook celebrations. As girls they both went to the Central School. Mrs Russell was formerly Eileen Hatton and Mrs Payter formerly Dorothy McCoombe.
