Kaiti K.O.'s
Well, almost, but not quite! The boxers were so evenly matched that there was not even a knock-out. However, there were some very lively rounds and the boys have evidently come a long way since last year's tournament, and the occasion was the Kaiti School's annual boxing night. Various gyms entered boxers and they fought to great encouragement from a very full house.
L. Houia, with the blood trickling, defeated M. Puia.
Winner of the Whelan Cup at the Kaiti. School (for most improved boxer) went to Richard Lloyd. Headmaster Mr K. M. Simpson presents the cup.
Present at the tournament were three boxers from Mel Witt's gym who did well for themselves at the recent Northern Hawkes Bay championships. From left: Patrick Grey, five to five-five title and most scientific boxer, Dean Perry, under-five-stone title and Alan Lloyd 5.12 to 6.1 title.
