Not only out and about but also up and away are these people of the Hikurangi Cultural Group from Ruatoria and thereabouts. They are pictured on their way to the airport to fly to Auckland and thence to Fiji where they will attend the Bula Festival, a week-long event of renown in the Pacific. Lucky things! From left: Mesdames M. Te Kawa, E. Harrison, W. Tawhai (steps), H. Nepe, Mr P. Ferris, Mesdames E. Kirikino, K. Hughes, J. Keelan, T. Tuhura, E. Goldsmith, Mr J. Keelan and Miss P. Moody.

Three members of the Canoe and Tramping Club are Bruce Coulter, David Waite and Tony Geard. These three competed in the Rothmans Long Distance Series Canoe Race on the Manawatu River - 25 miles of hazardous canoeing, Bruce won the event, David gained second fastest time, and Tony was unfortunate to capsize but fortunate to be rescued even though his canoe was wrecked.
