To advise all visitors to the city as well as all residents that Cook Year is really with us this sign has been erected at the city's west boundary. It looks quite impressive as one drives into the city. A similar sign is placed on Wainui Road at the city boundary.

Work is progressing at a satisfactory rate on the site of the Captain Cook Memorial. The framework is for the building of the back wall of the area.

On display in the Post Office Savings Bank in Lowe Street is this model of Cook's "Endeavour". It is complete in every detail and was made by Mr R. J. Nutley, a foreman of the Lines and Construction branch of the Post Office. With the model is Marlene Bell of Hamilton. She is on exchange and is a machinist at the P.O.S.B.

The pupils of the Waiwhare School, 30 miles from Hastings on the Taihape Road, made this tapestry and sent it to the Gisborne P.O.S.B. It was made entirely by the pupils of standard two and depicts Cook's voyages around New Zealand and Australia.
