The Oath of Allegiance was taken before the Mayor by seven candidates for citizenship recently. The ceremony was held at the Council Chambers and those who became New Zealand citizens are pictured with the Mayor, Mr Harry Barker. From left: Mrs Theodosia Niania (Tongan), Mr Antonius Visser (Dutch), Mrs Ng Tai Louie (Chinese), Mrs Heng Kiu Ng (Chinese), Mrs Lui Kim Yee (Chinese), Mr Chung Kwoon Yee (Chinese), and Mr Wing Fat Louie (Chinese).

At a small wind-up function at Ulverstone the chairman of the Wool Week committee, Anthony De Costa, presented a cheque to the chairman of the Community Hall appeal, John Nicholls, for $700.00. This represented the proceeds from the highly successful Wool Week promotion and was a welcome addition to the hall appeal.

Some senior members of the Gisborne Canoe and Tramping Club with Mr David Adcock, leader of last year's successful New Zealand Alpine Club axpedition to the Peruvian Andes, who lectured on the trip to a Gisborne audience last month. The party made the first traverse of Mount Yerapaja, the second-highest peak in Peru. (The trip was described and illustrated in a recent issue of "The Listener").
