The eleven members of the Y.M.C.A. Board of Directors and the four staff members gathered on the site of the new extensions to see the progress made on the building. At a cost of $3,900 the new cafeteria at the Girls' High School is now open. The money was raised by the P.T.A. Four of the P.T.A. committee members putting the finishing touches to the cafe are Messrs Derek Bird, Harold Skyrme, John Primrose, Den Wells and Jim Lynch.

One man was killed and two passengers injured when this late model Vauxhall hit a pole on the side of the road and was literally hacked in half. Here the two halves are shown as they appeared in the Gisborne Panelbeaters' yard.
