Commemorative Planting

Guides of the Turanganui Company planted a three-year-old kauri tree on June 10. This was to commemorate the year of Captain Cook's landing and the tree was planted in the grounds of the Cook County Chambers. This central location was chosen to enable the public and other Guides to see the tree and its future growth. With the Guides are Mrs E. Jolly (centre), Turanganui Co. captain, Mrs R. Short (district commissioner), Mr C. H. Cooper (vice-chairman of the Cook County Council, Mr R. Truman (Cook County) and Miss R. D. Bunt (provincial commissioner).
