Celebration Observations

Recent callers on Mayor Harry Barker to discuss the military aspects of the Cook week celebrations were Captain N. D. Anderson and Commodore L. G. Carr who were introduced by Gisborne naval liaison officer Owen Poole. Plans are tentative at present but about ten ships are expected to take part in the celebrations.

Shrubs and small trees in large concrete containers have been placed on the corners of various streets and make a welcome and colourful addition to the city.

Work is progressing apace on the scenic drive over the Titirangi Domain. The road is already widened and metalled as far as the trig. From the trig a look-out (bottom) will give commanding views of the Bay and Young Nick's Head.
